It’s official! Tom Brady left the New England Patriots and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on March 20, 2020. Brady agreed to a two-year contract with the Bucs, for $50 million. According to a sportswriter for the NFL, Adam Schefter, the contract is fully guaranteed and will include up to $9 million in extra incentives.
After Brady signed reactions were mixed. Peyton Manning, former Denver Bronco quarterback, says he’s excited for Brady and for what comes next. Some fans, especially those in New England, headed to Tik Tok to memorialize Brady and express their feelings of loss and gratitude in funny skits.
Brady’s decision led to a rush of reactions from football fans everywhere, ranging from optimistic, grateful, witty, enthusiastic, and even mean. Some joked that his decision could not have come at a worse time since they were already dealing with the coronavirus and they could not handle more bad news.
On Instagram, Brady posted a photo of himself signing his contract, which garnered about 49,000 comments and 1.2 million likes. He also posted short messages thanking his coach Bill Belichick, the NFL, his fans, and others.
Bucs players expressed their excitement about gaining Brady over social media.
One YouTuber made a short comedic video pretending to be different NFL teams reacting to Brady leaving the Patriots to sign with the Bucs. The video has over 300,000 views and around 2,000 comments.
With everyone practicing social distancing and the Coronavirus outbreak leaving the 2020 NFL season in limbo, fans might have to wait a bit longer to react to Brady’s first game as a Buccaneer.
